Climate Change and Plan B Engineering
In his Vox post, Ezra Klein (7 reasons America will fail on climate change - link) points out the rather obvious for the engineering community - if collective action on climate change goes south, the opportunity for coming up with Plan Bs for large parts of the planet will be huge. Climate change is just too big, too wicked a problem, too political, too economic, too large-scale engineering, too slow moving, too so many things. It is hard to see Plan A (a gradual shift from coal to natural gas to renewables) Engineering having the economics and time to make this all work out. Helping people, communities, and organizations with Plan B activities will be a growth industry.
