The Future of Water (and What I Worry About)

The America Water Resources Association is turning 50 this year.  They have published a series of articles on the future of water.  Link to the report.

Several of the themes in the document that we need to give consideration to -
  • Provide a bigger tent for engaging in conversations about 21st century water resources management issues.
  • The challenge of adaptation under deep uncertainty.
  • The treats to water quality.
  • The nation can no longer avoid its water challenges.
  • The future and evolution of water law.
  • Can we keep the public safe from floods?
  • The Ostrich Syndrome.
  • Financing our nation's inland waterways infrastructure.
  • A national drought policy?
  • Energy-Water Perplexus.
  • Not just an engineering problem.
  • Designing future conservation rates.
  • Advanced groundwater exploration and sustainable development.
  • Coastal resources over the next 50 years.
  • What does economics have to do with water? (answer - everything).
