HNTB has an outstanding series of articles on resilient infrastructure and resiliency thinking in their THINK infrastructure magazine this month (THINK is an excellent example of a consulting firm that has content that enhances my "It makes me smarter" experience.).
Resiliency is one leg of the three legged stool that will mark how we think about the infrastructure matrix and asset management this century. The three legs are: (1.) How do we design and manage infrastructure as we become more concerned about the natural disaster "bounce back" cycle, (2.) How do sustainability concerns in terms of the Triple Bottom Line (economic, environmental, and social needs) impact our thinking about the infrastructure matrix, and (3.) In the era of extreme fiscal constraints, how do we plan for resiliency and sustainability as we seek to rebuild our crumpling national infrastructure?
