Time is an important variable that impacts us all. From engineering to medicine to law - change over time is the most challenging variable we have to consider and work with in our professional lives. Boyhood, filmed over a 12-year period with the same actors, is the only film that I have seen that visually engages you in the notion of time and change. Time is a human creation that allows us to deal with a very abstract concept. Film is historically a two or three dimension platform that struggles with adding time as the fourth dimension. Engineering has several wonderful tools available to explain and educate key stakeholders regarding the complexity and abstract idea of time as the fourth dimension - - the time lapsed video of a bridge being constructed over a three year period is one of the most insightful and entertaining videos we can produce in the Era of Screens. In the debate over our declining infrastructure, explaining and illustrating time (and how time is not a friendly variable) could be the most important service we provide to the voting public.
