Ambient Devices

Social engineering - designing technology that changes the behavior of individuals or organizations.  A firm called Ambient Devices is one example of our ability to link the era of big data with tools and processes that allow people to absorb it all.  Between input and output lies the world of social engineering and interface design.

One of Ambient's signature products is the Energy Orb.  It glows red, yellow, or green as electricity prices rise or fall throughout the day.  The device was designed to be "sensed" - more unconscious than conscious.  Unconsciously customers respond by resetting their thermostat.
